Please join me in extending a warm Rumpus welcome to our new editorial staff! While it’s always sad to say goodbye-and this go-around we’re wishing farewell to a truly amazing editor-everyone who joins the Rumpus family stays in the Rumpus family, and we know we’ll see Denne (and her writing) ’round these parts soon.

Shaan, Anna, and Di have all been long-time readers for the features section, and we couldn’t be more confident in promoting them to assistant features editors. When I purchased the site in January 2017, it was with the hope that we could create a masthead that is almost entirely female/NGI, and largely non-white. We’re also delighted to introduce three new members of our features team: Shaan Amin, Anna Held, and Di Jayawickrema. Many of us believe that The Rumpus was built on the labor and talent of women editors and writers who went unacknowledged, or at least not properly credited, for far too long. Vonetta Young is an associate editor at The Offing and assistant flash editor at Hippocampus. Rebecca Rubenstein is The Rumpus’s founding Interviews Editor, and the Editor-in-Chief of Midnight Breakfast. Luckily, we didn’t have to look far to find awesome editors to take over for this heavy-hitter! Rebecca Rubenstein and Vonetta Young, who’ve worked with Denne over the past year, will be stepping in as co-Senior Fiction Editors effective immediately. You may have noticed some recent changes to our masthead.įirst, the sad news (well, the sad but also very, very wonderful news): our phenomenal Senior Fiction Editor, Denne Michele Norris, is stepping away from The Rumpus to become Electric Literature’s new Editor-in-Chief! We are beyond thrilled for Denne-the first Black, openly trans woman to helm a major literary publication-and very excited to see how she helps shape the next chapter for one of our favorite literary publications.
